Main Contact Options
Our main contacts can be supplied as busbar, stud or female thread terminations, dependent on the contactor type selected:
Stud – Male threaded and sized according to the contactor rating; it is compact in its connection points. In some circumstances, reduced thread sizing can be specified, but customers should consider any derating issues accordingly
Female – Sized according to the contactor rating, it is typically used on motor reversing contactors and is optional on high voltage contactors.
Busbar – This is silver plated as standard for our SW Type of busbar contactors (although as an option they can be without silver plating). For our RW range of contactors, they are without silver plating although this can be specified in if required. Silver plating provides an optimum electrical conductor interface between the contactor and the application and allows heat to be distributed more efficiently. Plating may be excluded at the customer’s option, but the effect of temperature rise within the application should be considered.
Contact Tips Options
Standard – Our standard contacts are suitable for the majority of applications where switching conditions are relatively light, particularly on electronically controlled vehicles.
Large Tips – In applications where more severe switching conditions exist such as pump motor switching, certain ranges are available with larger tips which will extend the life of the contactor.
Reduced Size – Contactors which can have this sized tip are our RW and RU Contactor types. These types by design have minimal sized tips as these are employed in situations when switching load is not a requirement unless an emergency. Because of the fundamental change to the specification regarding switching load, they are separated out into their own range.
Textured Tips – These can be supplied where it is desired to pass a low current (<5A) through the tips for monitoring purposes. These are suitable for applications where the contactor is switched off-load only.
